Working the SMS inbox
Where every conversation lands, whether the assistant or a person sent it. The two controls worth knowing: having the assistant read a thread and reply, and marking a lead not interested — which changes what the system does next, not just how the thread looks.
Who this is for
Every producer.
Replying yourself vs asking the assistant
You can type a reply, or have the assistant read the whole thread and answer the lead's last message — it texts within about a minute.
Use the assistant when the reply is routine and you want it handled while you're on calls. Write it yourself when the lead has said something that needs judgement. The assistant is good at momentum, not at reading a room.
Not interested is a control, not a label
Marking a lead not interested drops them out of the Interested filter and changes how the system treats them. Like any disposition, it's the switch that governs whether they keep being worked — see the dispositions article before using it as a tidy-up.
Reply speed is the whole game
A text reply is a lead raising their hand. The gap between their message and your response is the single biggest thing you control in this inbox — which is why 'clear all new replies' sits second in the daily habit list, above no-shows and follow-ups.
Common mistakes
- Letting the assistant handle a thread where the lead has raised something sensitive.
- Using 'not interested' as housekeeping for quiet threads — it changes what happens next.
- Batching replies to the end of the day. The value decays fast.
