How do I ask a client for their social security number or bank details?

A separate one-use link that encrypts what comes back — you see the last four digits and nothing else.

Who this is for

Any rep taking an application. If the option isn't in the menu, this deployment has no encryption key configured yet — that is an admin/infrastructure job, not a setting you can turn on.

Steps

  1. Open the lead, choose Send request → the SSN or banking option.
  2. Pick how long the link should stay live.
  3. Send it. As with every other link, it goes out on the normal texting path.
  4. When they submit, the lead's page shows the last four digits and the fact it's on file.

Never text a client asking them to reply with the number. A reply sits in the message thread, in call recordings' neighbouring records, and in every export of that thread. This link exists so the number goes somewhere the thread never touches.

What "one use" means

The link works once. Once it's submitted it's dead, and so is a second copy of it. If a client says it isn't working, cancel the open request and send a fresh one rather than resending the old link.

Why you only see four digits

The full value is encrypted the moment it arrives, with a key the app itself cannot read. Revealing it is a separate, audited action. The last four is enough to confirm you have the right account on a call, and not enough to be worth stealing.

If the option is missing or refuses

If it refuses with "secure requests are turned off", nothing was sent and nothing was stored — the request was never created. That means the encryption key isn't configured on this deployment. Tell your admin; there is no rep-side setting for it and no way to send it anyway.

Common mistakes

  • Asking for the number over text or on a call recording instead of through the link.
  • Sending a second request while one is still open — cancel the first, then send.
  • Expecting to read the number back later. You cannot; that is the point.
