What is street level commission?
Street level is the standard, widely-offered contract level for a product — the rate an agent gets without negotiating or producing volume. It is a reference point rather than a fixed number: it differs by carrier and product, and the phrase is used loosely.
The term matters mostly as a benchmark. When an agent says a contract is "above street", they mean it pays more than the commonly offered rate — which tells you something about the offer only if you know what street actually is for that carrier and product.
Treat any recruiting pitch built on "we pay above street" as an invitation to ask two questions: above street for which carrier and product, and what does the difference buy or cost you in support?
| Claimed | "20 points above street" |
|---|---|
| Street on that product | unspecified |
| Lead support included | unspecified |
| What to ask | which carrier, which product, and what comes with it |
The number is meaningless without its two missing variables.
